So, what do you think happens when Marvel’s most responsible character meets the most reckless character? 

Well that’s exactly what you see in Spider-Man and Deadpool’s friendship. If you think about it, logically Spiderman and Deadpool should have been sworn enemies. One shoulder the “with great power comes great responsibility” tag while the other’s first thought of a solution is violence and mayhem.  Yet, surprisingly they actually turn out to be quite the wholesome duo.  

Since their first meeting in ‘Cable and Deadpool #24’ published in 2006 that begins with a chaotic battle ultimately ends up in an unlikely friendship in ‘Spiderman/Deadpool #1’ published 2016, filled with chaos, adventures and a whole lot of fourth-wall breaking.

That being said, here are some seriously interesting facts about Spider-Man and Deadpool’s friendship, some of these will actually shock you:

1. Deadpool is crazy obsessed with Spider-Man. 

Wade Wilson considers Spidey as his ‘ultimate platonic soulmate’. Spider-Man is literally his ‘Gold standard’ in cases of heroism. He often refers to himself as Spider-Man’s best friend though Spider-Man almost always denies it. Deadpool is highly inspired by Spiderman and actually designed his suit to match Spider-Man with intentions to annoy him in the process. 

2. Spider-Man hated Deadpool.

Like I mentioned earlier, it’s very obvious why Spider-Man would hate Deadpool. He is literally the embodiment of everything Peter Parker is against. Spider-Man found Deadpool’s constant talking and killing people very annoying and frustrating. This hatred had come to a point where in ‘Uncanny Avengers Vol.3’ Spider-Man left the group cause he couldn’t bear working next to/along with Deadpool. 

3. Deadpool earned Spider-Man’s respect

So what made Spider-Man actually try and accept Deadpool as someone he can accept as a friend? Well Wade adopted the “WWSD” rule. ‘What would Spider-Man do?’ was something Deadpool wore on his bracelets to control his violent urges. Deadpool stopped killing people for a very long time just to earn Spider-Man’s respect. 

4. Deadpool and Spiderman have a Biological Daughter 

Wait what?? Yup, that was my first reaction too. Deadpool and Spiderman do have a biological daughter but they had no idea of her existence at the beginning. Their daughter’s name is ‘Itsy Bitsy’. Cute ya? Well her abilities aren’t as cute as her name one of them being Corrosive Spit. Itsy Bitsy is a terrifying 6 armed, blue, violent villain in the Marvel universe. She is the result of a twisted genetic mashup of Spider-Man and Deadpool’s DNA created by ‘Patient Zero’. 

5. Spider-Man Warning System 

Deadpool, being the slightly obsessive platonic lover he is to Spiderman, built a proximity sensor into his suit that alerted him every time Spider-Man was in danger. 

6. Double Date <3

Spidey and Deadpool once went on a Double date. In ‘Spiderman/Deadpool #4’ Deadpool tricks Peter into coming to a club by texting him. However, soon one thing leads to another, which isn’t surprising when Deadpool is involved. The date soon takes quite a turn with people attacking each other and ends with Spider-Man and Deadpool dancing on stage with nothing but their masks and underwear on. 

7. Bromance Date

Deadpool and Spiderman once spent a whole afternoon watching movies together on a rooftop. This is a fan favourite ‘Spideypool’ moment. The scene is a reflection on how hellbent Deadpool is to become friends with Spider-Man.

8. Spidey Merch

Deadpool had a huge collection of all spiderman merchandise. These include pj’s and a custom plush toy. He keeps all of this in his ‘Sacred Room’, which is a hidden closet dedicated entirely to Spider-Man’s merchandise. 

9. Special HandShake 

Deadpool invented a special handshake for the both of them. However, Spiderman always refuses to actually go through with it and instead says ‘No Killing’.  

10. Deadpool knows Peter Parker 

Wade Wilson knows Peter Parker is Spider-Man but he promised to never reveal his identity due to his love for Spiderman. He respects Spiderman a lot. He admires his moral ideology and tries to mirror it into his own life for the sake of his own daughter.
